Grand Coulee Dam, Washington, Aug.2 & 3

Hi everyone, We left Idaho and are in Washington. We are staying at Spring Canyon Campground which is a Nat'l Park camp. We were heading towards a state campground and just happened to pass this one, and are we glad that we did. We have a great view of the dam and the mountains surrounding it plus a view of the Columbia River. Grand Coulee Dam is one of the largest concrete structures in the world. It contains nearly 12 million cubic yards of concrete. You could build a sidewalk four feet wide and four inches thick and wrap it twice around the equator. You could build a highway from Seattle, Washington to Miami, Fl. Grand Coulee Dam is the largest hydro power producer in the U.S. Isn't that something? We took a tour of the power plant yesterday. The power generating plant pumps water uphill 280 ft. from Franklin D. Roosevelt Lake to Banks Lake. This water is used to irrigate 670,000 acres of farmland in the Columbia Basin Project. More than 60 crops are grown in the basin and distributed across the nation. There is so much more information to post but you can always bring it up on Google if you are interested. This little town we are in was built for the workers in 1935. Another quaint, interesting little town. We loved it! We are so grateful to be able to travel and meet such interesting people and see so many things. We are living our dream, as our good friend Dick Wise told us. Love to you all
